GAERF Career Awareness Day
August 2005
On Wednesday, September 14, 2005, the Graphic Arts Education and Research Foundation (GAERF®), in conjunction with the management of the Graphic Arts Show Company (GASC®), will offer a free Career Awareness Day program for approximately 1,500 high school students and teachers.
Shellie L. Hall, education evangelist and product marketing specialist for Quark, has been selected to address the students at 10:00 a.m. Ms. Hall is a recognized specialist in many phases of the printing and publishing industry and is a frequent speaker at industry events. Hall was recently nominated to the New York City's Graphic Arts Education Advisory Commission and has participated as a judge in high school graphic arts competitions.
The presentation will summarize the basic skills needed in order to secure a job in the graphics/publishing industry, which will include a description of her own experience of growing from basic paste-up to being an Evangelist for Quark. She will offer tips to students on how to build a portfolio, and give advice on how to become marketable in the industry.
Following the conclusion of the program, students will be provided the opportunity to learn about the industry through meeting professionals on the exhibition floor and seeing the latest technology.
Career Day is appropriate for students with an interest in printing, graphic design, engineering, computers, art, electronics, physics and chemistry, mechanics, math and publications.
